With new, major projects in the pipeline, John Joseph Wardle, aka Jah Wobble, has been harnessing the power of portable digital tools and the internet to celebrate his former hometown of London. Eschewing traditional business and distribution models, The Bus Routes Of South London, his latest digital-only release, was uploaded to the music distribution platform Bandcamp just 30 minutes after it was completed.
Arguably best known as the co-founder of post-punk pioneers Public Image Ltd with singer John Lydon and guitarist Keith Levene, Wobble has forged a singular career of his own and, in the process, has elevated his instrument of choice to centre stage. In a career spanning more than four decades and participating in genres as wide as world music, dance, ambient and industrial rock, this most progressive of bassists ploughs a furrow that is uniquely his own.
