Fewgames of the era captured the feel of action cinema like Metal Gear Solid did. Snake’s earlier adventures had completely passed me by, but hype for his first PlayStation outing was reaching fever pitch and I was desperate to learn what all the fuss was about.

Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece certainly didn’t disappoint and I was in awe of its creativity, dramatic boss fights and its constant cinematic flair. It’s a real treat then to hear how developers of similar stealth games were equally impressed by Kojima’s game and how it helped shape their own tentative steps within the blossoming genre.
