Having taken a less hands-on role in recent years, Miyamoto’s involvement with Mario’s latest 2D adventure was to “generally observe things and make comments here and there”, as producer Takashi Tezuka told IGN. It certainly feels like a bit of a departure from the standard Mario style – the game is delightfully weird in a way you must experience for yourself.
