Editors’ Letter

Boston Logan International Airport is the scene for this edition of the Editors’ letter. We’ve been out of the country for only a matter of days to cover The Head of The Charles Regatta and yet when we bounce back along London Heathrow’s tarmac King Charles II will be asking the new Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to form a government. Despite the colossal pace at which Westminster-types are shuffling their House of Cards, we can’t wait to get home. A notion the Irish adventurer Damian Browne knows well. His transatlantic crossing lasted 112 days, a truly long-haul effort saw the former rugby player slogging on the oars from New York to Galway. You can read about his crossing in this Issue 45.

Pangs for home were also felt at Račice by the British contingent who missed Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral which marked the end of their nation’s official mourning period. We provide a comprehensive ‘Račice Rundown’, while rowing author and former Czech Republic lightweight sculler Daniela Nachazelova shares her personal reflections as the 2022 World Rowing Championships return to her home country.
