Nostalgia

For an age yet to come

HARROGATE

So this month I have mostly been building Airfix kits. It’s been a mixture of curiosity, nostalgia, and sheer enjoyment. Curiosity to see what the ‘Lego’ Hawk actually went together like, nostalgia over the 1/76 tank kits that Hugo got with his Flying Hours that required some assistance, and sheer enjoyment with the Sea Hurricane Ib in 1/48, which has been an absolute pleasure to build and even as we speak is going together like a dream.

Hurricane first. I have been critical in the past, where I thought appropriate, about the tooling on some of the recent Airfix releases. I can say with total satisfaction that the 1/48 Hurricane has no such issues. The overly deep panel lines that marred some of the earlier red box releases seem to have been laid to rest and the surface detail is the equal of anything coming on to the market these days. As for the fit, it needs to be experienced to be believed. The engineering of the kit is a delight and the fit of parts accurate to a degree. It has been a singularly pleasant experience.

About Scale Aircraft Modelling

THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO In for review is the soon to be released Kinetic two seat Harrier. We have beer provided with an unboxed production sample in advance of its official appearance, so a massive thanks to Kinetic for providing the kit. Bear in mind that the kit has not hit the shelves of your favourite retailer so the usual caveat applies in regards to things changing before release. As far as Harriers go this is the first 1/48 mainstream injected moulded two seater of the famous jump jet, so an important release to say the least.
