VIOLET CLOUD: KWANISHI E15K 'SHUN'
The Kawanishi E15K was developed in 1939 as a fast reconnaissance aircraft to equip the planned Ōyodo class of light cruisers. The prototype first flew in 1941 and was followed by five further prototype aircraft, however the aircraft was dogged by problems throughout its development, particularly with the retractable outrigger floats under the wings, and ultimately only went into very limited production. Six aircraft were sent to the South Pacific by the Imperial Japanese Navy, however they were completely outclassed by the Allied fighters and all were destroyed in action. Production ceased after just fifteen aircraft, including the six prototypes, had been completed.
