For our practice piece, we’ll make Squares made up of 5 sts and 5 rows. The first foundation level can be any number of Squares, but we’ll make two.
Start with a foundation chain. For each Square, ch1 for each stitch and row, plus 1 extra. So for each of our 5x5 Squares, we’ll chain 11 (5 + 5 + 1), plus we need to add 1 chain at the very end. This is a multiple of 11 + 1. If you were making 4x4 Squares, you’d need a multiple of 9 + 1; for 6x6 Squares, you’d need a multiple of 13 + 1, and so on.
