At the end of 2019 I was in the fortunate position of working for an employer that gave long-term employees a fully paid (!) two-and-a-half-month sabbatical after five years’ service. I felt duty bound to make the most of the opportunity and mark it with an epic trip; why hang around in the UK through the relentless yomp of winter with so much time to burn?
