As the season for “big deer” in England and Wales begins, I found myself looking back to the same time last year and comparing it to where we are now.
This time last year I had, very fortunately, been granted access to a brand-new piece of ground in the North West of England. An area with a considerable population of red deer. I had been given the tour by the landowner in the spring, showing where the boundaries were, where the deer tended to be seen and points of access and was keen as mustard to get out on there.
