CANCEL THEIR CONTRACTS
Counties need to get tough with wantaway red-ball cricketers by cancelling contracts and renegotiating terms on a game-by-game basis. That is the view of The Cricket Paper’s Derek Pringle, who says white-ball specialists are cashing in at their counties’ expense. Pringle, who represented England in forty four one-day internationals between 1982 and 1993, alongside a glittering career for Essex, believes the recent decisions by Adil Rashid and Alex Hales – who have opted to play only domestic limited-overs cricket this season –will open the door for more players to do the same, and county boards should act to safeguard the future of First-Class cricket in this country.
