The very best of your Porsche opinions

STAR  CORRESPONDENCE

Rare shades

Dear Sir, I had to do a double take when I opened the latest T911 and read the piece on the bulletproof 996. I was ready to put money on it being Ipanema blue metallic, the same as our C4 GTS, until I read the colour description: Dragonfly turquoise metallic. They are so close, and nearly 20 years apart!

Ipanema blue is a pretty rare colour in the UK with perhaps only five (or less) 911s in this colour. From what I’ve read (in my 911 Red Book) Ipanema blue was only available at the very end of the 997 production cycle and possibly spilled over and was still an option for the earliest 991s. After that it seems to have been discontinued. Not that I’m complaining, of course, as it certainly makes for a talking point when we meet up with other Porsche owners. A few photos can be found above with more on the website www.barlow.org.uk. Stay safe and keep up the great work with the magazine.
