All that glitters is not gold. If you look past the shallow glamour of Dubai, it’s not hard to see the crisis that is the street cat situation. The problem is, not that many people do look. Government ministers included.
There are people pouting and taking selfies for their social media accounts at every turn. But if your gaze drops to ground level, you’ll see a little scrap of life peeping out from under a sports car; you’ll see an emaciated and dirty little thing crouching low, trying to muster up the courage to approach a discarded takeaway amongst the noise and bustle of the partygoers; you’ll see a skeletal soul slink behind a flashy restaurant to get to the bins; you’ll see the lifeless form of a cat who could not find water in the oppressive heat, eyes and mouth full of dusty sand. There are thousands upon thousands of them.
