The mantis shrimp is a particularly interesting crustacean, due to its unusual skill set. Famed for its strange eyes and club-shaped claw, there are over 400 species of mantis shrimp. Mantis shrimp are actually a variety of stomapod, and are distantly related to crabs, lobsters and other shrimp species. The claws of mantis shrimp are different depending on the variety — some impale their prey on their spear-shaped claws, and others smash their prey with their club-shaped claws. The strong punch of a mantis shrimp can crack glass, and due to this they are rarely found in captivity.
