Rockabilly Summer

The UK summer has begun… Here’s our quick round-up of what rockin’ treats to expect from top-down car cruises by the sea to the best of rock’n’roll and rockabilly weekenders

We were spoilt for choice at Viva Las Vegas, we rocked our socks off at Hemsby, and the Nashville Boogie was cooking as always – but it need not stop there. Those with a penchant for rock’n’roll in the sun (isn’t that everyone?) can fill their boots this summer with a many-splendoured menu to keep us strolling, bopping and swinging throughout. The summer season kicks off in fine fettle with Wildest Cats Summer Car Cruise, lighting up Lowestoft with a fine array of classic cars, hot-rods, bikes and trikes (7 July), before the 12th Shakedown Rock’n’Roll Weekender arrives in Dursley with acts including Germany’s Smoke Stack Lightnin’, Paul Ansell’s Number Nine, Michael Roach’s Mississippi Blues Band and all the usual accoutrements (18-21 July, This is followed by more Wildest Cats In Town, namely its ‘60 Years Of Rock’n’Roll Special’ at Pontins in Lowestoft that promises the usual hi-jinx thanks to featured acts such as Hayden Thompson, Jimmy Van Eaton, Crazy Cavan, Spunyboys and original Comets sax player Joey D’Ambrosio amongst many others (5-8 July, ATOMIC returns to Sywell Aerodrome at the end of July with sounds from Barrence Whitfield, Sonny West, Los Torontos, The Jive Romeros and a host of other activities, not least their classic car show and Wall of Death (27-28 July, Lastly, we’re seaside-bound once more in September, where the Welsh Rockabilly Fair will no doubt provide a fitting close to summer 2019, thanks to a line-up that boasts the cream of UK talent from Crazy Cavan and The Bullets through to John Lewis and this issue’s On The Radar stars, The DeadShots (20-22 September,
