Issy Wong loves bowling fast and she’ll tell anyone who’ll listen. In one of her first conversations with her coach at Warwickshire, aged no more than 13, she told him she wanted to be “the quickest women’s bowler that England have ever had”, and it’s an ambition that stills burns brightly.
“That was pretty much the first thing she said to me too ,” says Tim Macdonald, the former Tasmania fast bowler who’s now England Women’s assistant coach. “I asked Issy what she wanted to achieve and she said she wanted to be the first woman to bowl 80 miles an hour. I hope she gets there because she’s pretty clear with that goal. She’s a very exciting prospect.”
