PRICK UP YOUR EARS
Imagine having the hearing of a creature that’s not human. Firstly, decide on your creature. Is it an animal, bird, reptile, insect? Or an imaginary creature, or even an alien? Think about what your chosen creature can hear, and how it needs to use its sense of hearing. Now imagine that you are that creature. Then write a passage or paragraph from the perspective of your chosen creature, focusing on what it can hear and how it responds.

POINT OF VIEW
Write from the perspective of someone looking out of the window. You could imagine the person looking at the view in the picture, or choose another window and view altogether. Decide who this person is, and why they’re looking through the window. Writing in first person, imagine what is going through the person’s mind as they look through the window. Bear in mind that unless something striking has occurred, or they’re concentrating on looking for a very particular thing, the person probably won’t just be thinking about what they can see. As you write, try to convey not just what they can see and how it impacts on them, but also what other thoughts and ideas they’re having, and how the various thought processes might be expressed in words.
