Notes from the margin: Wine bluff
Jump at chances to broaden your writing experience but know your limits, urges Lorraine Mace
Sometimes writers are given the opportunity to report on things about which they know very little, but are subjects it would be interesting to study.
This once happened to me and I’ve never forgotten the experience. My knowledge of fine wine could be written in large letters on the back of a very small wine label, but when an editor suggested I write about the annual wine judging of the Vignerons Indépendants de France, I jumped at the chance. I may not have been able to wax lyrical on the subject, but the ability to drink wine was surely qualification enough?
