Cage & Aviary Birds  |  9-Oct-24
At this time of year, jays suddenly become conspicuous in our countryside, having finished their moult. We focus on this star softbill, which when available has long been a favourite with birdkeepers. In the canary world we pay tribute to Gloster great Mick Rose, who has sadly passed away: a fancier with an outstanding gift for partnerships as well as stockmanship. We learn how to prioritise admin on the day of a show (very important if it’s your job!) and how to gauge your parrots’ wellbeing from their plumage. Canary men in North Wales and the South East bring us their updates, and in anticipation of this weekend’s Scottish National we revisit that great event 100 years ago. And no issue would be complete without news of DEFRA and its smoothly functioning (not!) new registration scheme. Enjoy.
