Marcos legend Dennis Adams died on 3 November, aged 92. Inextricably linked with the Wiltshire marque, this gifted designer nevertheless enjoyed a career that encompassed off-roaders and city cars via endurance racers. A product of the 1950s Specials boom, he built chassis for Brian Lister before joining Marcos at the jumping-off point in 1959 and shaping the 1800, which caused a furore when it was introduced in ’64. Variations on the theme emerged over the following three decades, the irony being that it was intended as a stopgap. He also shaped the remarkable Probe series alongside brother Peter before departing for the USA in the early ’70s, returning to the UK a decade later to work for Glenfrome prior to offering the Jaguar XJ-based Adams Roadster. His final car design was the Rotrax, which he likened to a four-wheeled BMX.
