MG’S HISTORY STAYS SAFE AT LONGBRIDGE
MG Motor UK is refusing to reveal what it will do with the company’s
artefacts at Longbridge in the wake of its announcement that car assembly has stopped there. According to Gemma Cartwright MBE, organiser of the Pride of Longbridge, and campaigner for the former workers of MG Rover,
‘they’re not going anywhere.’ MG Motor UK’s Chinese owner, Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation (SAIC), owns the contents of the Longbridge factory. But it has yet to confi rm the fate of the irreplaceable, historic items, such as Herbert Austin’s office and 20-25 prototypes and
historically significant cars, which are still there.
