EXTREME WITCHCRAFT
E WORKS / PIAS
★★★★
On his 14th album Mark Everett still sounds like he’s just woken up hoarse after a heavy night, but he’s nonetheless got plenty of energy as he kicks things off with Amateur Hour’s spiky punk and the staccato Good Night On Earth. He maintains this vigour on Better Living Through Desperation and some of the fuzzy What It Isn’t, but on Strawberries & Popcorn he stretches lazily, the sun sneaking through the curtains, while the coffee kicks in gently as he twirls to Grandfather Clock Strikes Twelve’s cheeky Beck-like shuffle.
