SUPERNATURE

“Soon be nothing of this world,” sings Alison Goldfrapp on Koko from Goldfrapp’s third album.
The duo predicted many music trends, but that frankly seems a little too prescient right now. Just two songs later, Time Out From The World still resonates as a self-isolation anthem. Just what did Goldfrapp and Will Gregory know back in 2005? Joking aside, the reissue of Supernature is some small consolation for the postponement of Goldfrapp’s March tour, which marked the 20th anniversary of debut album Felt Mountain. With Supernature’s predecessor Black Cherry launching the campaign, the second in Goldfrapp’s vinyl reissue series is similarly tasteful: a gatefold sleeve, a free textless art print of the album cover and coloured vinyl (green, compared to the inevitably cherry-coloured Black Cherry.) Where Black Cherry started Goldfrapp’s ascent into mainstream pop, Supernature would prove the pair’s commercial peak. Ooh La La was a superb choice of lead single, blasting straight in to the Top Five. Almost as seductive, Number 1 followed Ooh La La into the Top 10.
