The ongoing critical reassessment of goth has brought Peter Murphy back into the centre of the wider musical culture. And yet despite the heightened likelihood of encountering Bela Lugosi’s Dead in everyday situations rather than someplace everyone wears black, the Godfather Of Dark Things has himself been largely missing in action in terms of new material.
At least, that is, until November 2024, when Let The Flowers Grow, a collaboration with Boy George that apparently sprung from Murphy overhearing a demo via producer Youth’s phone, was released. This happenstance occurred because Murphy and Youth, who worked together on his previous album Lion in 2014, had reunited in Spain to record Murphy’s 11th LP.
