Classic Van & Pick-up  |  Classic Van June 2013
I WENT to a fortune-teller the other day and
she said: “I’ll answer two questions for 50
quid.” I said: “How much?” She replied:
“Next question.” Well, you probably think that
is a total fabrication, maybe even a blatant lie,
and you would be quite close to the truth. I just
thought I’d chuck that one in for a laugh (I do
believe I have chucked that one in about six
times before, oh well). It was my way of getting
round to talking about the future. In this
instance, future classics.
There is always plenty of debate about what is – and
isn’t – a classic and I think the whole thing is a load of
baloney. It doesn’t matter about price, rarity, condition,
what it meant in its day etc. And I never listen to the
Hooray Henries (sorry, Henry, nothing personal), who go
on about Ferraris, Bentleys, Bugattis and suchlike. The
thing is, if you reckon a vehicle deserves classic status
then that’s good enough.
Anyhow, I would be most interested to hear what you
think will be a classic in a few years. You’ll see on page
36 that we present you with a feature on the Ford P100
pick-up, which must surely deserves a place in the classic
hall of fame. An overlooked vehicle, in many respects,
and one which I, personally, would really enjoy owning.
But what else
is waiting in the
wings? Let me
know and if
you own that
words with a few pics. I’ll either run a feature entitled
“Classics of the Future” fairly soon or wait a while and
call it “We Told You So, Sucker”. So, get to it, dudes,
OK?
And before I sign off, I just want to say a big thank-you
to everybody who has been in contact with the mag
over the past few months. I get a lot of correspondence
in the form of letters, My Story ideas, stuff for the It’s
Here – in Black and White section etc and for that, I
am truly, truly (all right, get on with it) grateful.
