Coin hobby enthusiasts often begin any discussion of the Peace dollar with references to Farran Zerbe, the onceinfluential historian and former American Numismatic Association (ANA) president, 1909-1910, who first proposed the Peace dollar at the ANA convention on August 25, 1920.
In 2021, the ANA distanced itself from Zerbe and removed his name from its top annual award after research during the coronavirus pandemic uncovered allegations of hucksterism and improprieties relating to an ANA election.
