Combat Aircraft Journal  |  US NAVAIR
US NAVAIR (Naval Air Systems Command) charts the six-decade evolution of the force behind US naval aviation. One of the US Navy’s three Systems Commands, (NAVAIR) is the principal provider for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE).
Although its history can be traced back more than 100 years, to the earliest days of US Naval Aviation, the command celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026. Established as the successor to the Navy’s Bureau of Naval Weapons, NAVAIR is headquartered in Lexington Park, Maryland, but is responsible for operations conducted at eight locations across the continental United States and another overseas.
This special publication looks at the command’s history and structure and its assigned bases, centres, squadrons and aircraft.
