Extend Windows 10 support for $30 – but just for one year

Microsoft has revealed it will charge users $30 to extend support for Windows 10 for one year after support officially ends on 14 October 2025. It hasn’t confirmed the price for UK users, but it’s likely to be similar.

It’s the first time Microsoft has offered extended support for individuals, having previously provided it to businesses and organisations using Windows 7.

WHAT WE THINK

Finally, Windows 10 users who can’t upgrade to 11 have some clarity: buy a new computer before October 2025 or pay around £30 to extend security support. We were expecting it to be nearer £50, so that’s a welcome surprise, though it won’t stop campaigners pushing for Microsoft to offer free support, or even prolong it indefinitely. We sympathise with that view, but the reality is Microsoft is committed to axing a system that by next October will be over 10 years old. We’ll continue to explain your options until then.
