15 questions with… OFFAIAH

After an almost accidental introduction to the world of music production, OFFAIAH scored a huge hit with his debut single and has continued to conquer the world of house music ever since. Time for 15 (actually 13) answers…

House producer OFFAIAH’s debut single Trouble was the biggest dance hit of 2016 and has now notched up over four million views on Youtube. Since then he has enjoyed huge success with singles including Push Pull, Work It Out, Somewhere Special and Soldier. This year he’s been just as busy with releases including Play It By Ear and That Makes Me Love You and has also just landed a long-term album deal with Defected Records, with that release promised soon.

1 How did you get into music production?

OFFAIAH: “I come from a musical family so I’ve always been into music as my father is a piano teacher, but I never actually thought I’d end up making music professionally. One day I happened to be hanging out at my sister’s boyfriend’s house who was a producer and had a studio. I was messing around on the synth keyboard while he was in the kitchen making a sandwich and all of a sudden he ran in asking what I was playing. I said it was something I had just made up on the spot. He asked me to play it again, only this time with him recording it and from there we managed to turn it in to a full song which ended up being my first release which went top 40 in the UK charts. It all started there and I haven’t looked back since. I think becoming successful is a result of my ability to spend long hours in the studio working on music, sometimes more than 24 hours at a time without getting tired, fatigued or bored. Where some people may want to give up, I like to press on. I don’t see it as ‘work’ but more of a labour of love. Putting in so much time into developing my sound and progress as a producer plus focusing in on being consistent over the years has definitely paid off.”
