With software emulations of classic hardware being so sonically on-point now, the journey of getting some of those classic dusty old hardware tones into your DAW projects is signifcantly less troublesome than it was in days gone by. Ten years back (and when the software emulation playing field was rather more limited) we ran a substantial feature that guided readers through the best methods of routing hardware synths, sequencers, drum machines, tape machines and even those newfangled iPads into DAWs. While less of a necessity for everybody these days, there’s still a great deal of fun and creative potential to be had getting an entire analogue arsenal hooked up to your computer. Perhaps it’s worth us going back to the topic again, albeit in our 2023 hats.
