For those of us of a certain age, Ableton Live still feels like the young upstart of the DAW world (but then I used to make music on a ZX Spectrum and Atari, so we really are talking ‘a certain age’). Yet Live, the potent and cutting edge mix of live clip generator and more standard DAW arranger, is, incredibly, 20 years old. Celebrations no doubt went long into the night in Berlin (I once woke up in the morning in Berlin and some of the cool kids there were just going out for the night – they do like a late/early one), but we’ve got our own way of marking the anniversary. In this issue, we have the honour of presenting you with Ableton’s Live Lite, a leaner but no less creative beast that we have partnered with not one but two workshops. If you’ve never experienced Ableton Live, now is the time, and even if you are a seasoned user, you’ll find plenty of extra advice and tips. To go with these we have all of the associated audio and projects plus a huge selection of track builder and kit samples so you can easily create music in a wide variety of styles (no matter what DAW you use). You can now download these in two ways (we are firmly DVD-less now, in case you missed it) as we now have double the content we used to. Use FileSilo as normal, or we also have faster WeTransfer links there for all of our videos, samples and software. Which just leaves me space to give a welldeserved congratulations from us to Ableton, and a happy 2022 to you all! Prost!
