Moving beyond the basic elements of subtractive synthesis, the next big process to explore is the concept of modulation. We’ve discussed here how the ADSR envelope can be used to modulate the volume of your synth sound. Now take that concept, but add the ability to send the envelope to another synthesiser control, such as the cutoff within the filter section; it is almost as though you can automate the cutoff control!
