Ableton Note
It’s not quite ‘Live on your iPhone’, but Ableton’s new Note app does have a similar workflow. It’s best thought of as a trackstarting app for Live users (projects can be ported across), letting you make music with 56 Drum Sampler kits to be played/recorded via a 16-pad grid, and 261 synth sounds and 36 Melodic Sampler instruments to be played polyphonically via a 25-pad grid. Note offers Session View, and up to eight tracks. You can’t use full audio tracks and there’s no MIDI controller support, but you can record or import your own samples. Note runs on iPhone/iPad. $6/£5/€7. www.ableton.com
