Exterior renovations can update your whole home in a big way. George Myers and Doug Roberts, architects at GTM Architects, proved this when they came on to help a Maryland family renovate their exterior to match their modern farmhouse aesthetic.
Among the family’s needs was a desire for a “classic exterior look,” say the architects. “The existing front was updated with a new covered front porch, windows, a new second-story raised roofline that allowed for the front dormers, new garage doors and Artisan siding in the existing gable.” The covered porch, dormer windows and white-washed brick siding all add farmhouse charm to the home. “It was already a brick home, and the modern aesthetic changes such as rethinking window locations and adding shutters drastically changed the appearance,” the architects say.
