As any collector will tell you, most collections aren’t planned. You get something you like, then another. Soon you find yourself getting up at 5:00 a.m. every Saturday morning to be the first at flea markets.
One of my first purchases was a $12 needlepoint sampler hand-stitched by A.V.C. in 1932. It contained the traditional letters of the alphabet, a tree of life and various birds, flowers and figures. I stumbled across it at a local antiques store, and knew I had to have it.
