Big chop
Clear felling of Arran’s timber began this week. In prospect for many years as the plantations of coniferous trees approached maturity, there has been felling on a small scale for some time. this was mainly thinning and opening up roads to gain access for the main timber extraction. Now chopping down trees has begun in earnest and export of timber will become a regular feature of the island.
