Lagaville pathway
The abandoned village of Lagaville has been hidden from sight since the area was planted with trees in the early 1960s but now, after two years in the making, Forest Enterprise has completed a path leading to the old village.
The path links up with those to the Urie Loch and to Meallach’s grave which branch off the forestry road from the Dyemill. Created mostly by volunteers, with no funding, the cadets, scouts and Lochranza Outdoor Centre and Historic Scotland have all helped to create the path. One reason given for the village being abandoned in 1890, and the population moving down to Lamlash, is that a pregnancy turned sour for lack of a doctor due to the inaccessibility of the village.
