North Ayrshire Council is to give major financial backing to social enterprises in a bid to boost employment in the area.
The council’s cabinet has approved a new social enterprise strategy for North Ayrshire and a three-year action plan. The cabinet agreed to provide £242,000 funding to help develop social enterprises and implement the plan.
Social enterprises trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or the environment. They make their money from selling goods and services but then reinvest their profits back into the business or the local community.
