RESTORING self-confidence and reducing anxiety levels in injured athletes can increase the likelihood of a speedy and successful recovery, says Adam Gledhill, a senior lecturer in sport and exercise therapy at Leeds Beckett University who has worked with many leading track and field athletes.

In a research paper published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Gledhill assessed psychosocial aspects – such as emotions and behaviours – of athletes and looked at how these related to rehabilitation outcomes.
