AS SOMEONE who has spent years studying and reporting on the science of sport, first at university and latterly as a journalist, I was intrigued to read Ross Murray’s assessment of the role science has played in endurance running.
Despite the scientific advances, and lactate, psychology and nutrition tests, Murray argues that performances have stagnated since the 1980s. Could it be, he asks, that science has not served its purpose?
