ANDREW STEELE says the situation surrounding his likely Olympic bronze medal from Beijing 2008 is reminiscent of American shot putter Adam Nelson, who was awarded Olympic gold from 2004 some years later in the car park of a local McDonald’s restaurant.
Steele was part of the British 4x400m team who finished fourth at the Games eight years ago, and could be boosted up to third after Russian 400m runner Denis Alexeev was disqualified following a re-test of one of his doping samples.
Steele heard of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) official announcement of Alexeev’s disqualification while standing in a clothes store in New York.
