My friend once passed on a piece of unique sartorial wisdom to me. We were talking about clothes, as you do, and he’d noticed a pair of spectacle frames I was wearing and asked after them. I said they were old Tom Ford but that the thing I liked about them was that they didn’t have the distinctive ‘T’ insignia sideways on the arm pivot that screams ‘I AM WEARING TOM FORD GLASSES’. He nodded sagely.
Despite this interchange coming on the veranda of a restaurant in Los Angeles and him being a wildly successful stylist there now, we both come from the North. Learning to dress as a man is second nature up there. You don’t have to look far for the clues. It’s in the blood.
