Whether you’re gearing up to take on a 5km run, some deep powerlifting, or to tumble a gymnastic floor routine, the most important part of your workout is the first five to 10 minutes: the warm-up. If you’re using the excuse “I never have time to warm up,” then you haven’t got time to work out. A warm-up does two things. First, it heats and loosens the body to ready it for exercise, and second it prepares your mind. We perform better and are more likely to avoid injury when we have warmed up to prepare us both mentally and physically for the work ahead.
