A
nother day, another long-distance test for our
Cupra Born. I’ve made no secret in previous reports about my EV-led ventures to the south coast, and this year’s excursion took me once again to the depths of Cornwall.
My experience of doing this trip several times in EVs plus the general excellence of this Born means any lingering range anxiety has been vanquished. Such is my confidence that I don’t even feel the need to leave with a full charge – although that might be viewed as arrogance by the end of this story.
I usually stop at Exeter services, which has 26 Gridserve chargers and a bunch of older Tesla units, but this particular Sunday was rather busy, even though the school summer holidays had ended. So I decided to head to a quieter, lesser-known charging spot: Strawberry Fields Farm shop, near Lifton, just off the A30. This has Osprey chargers, the rubberadorned cables of which look like an amalgamation of Cthulhu and Xenomorph XX121 (sorry: you might need to gen up on the horror/sci-fi back catalogue to appreciate that reference).
