ARMENIA’s David Avanesyan (29-3- 1, 17 KOs) has sat around like patience on a monument for the past couple of years waiting for a big fight to materialise and trusting that his promoter, Frank Warren, and manager, Neil Marsh, would be capable of delivering it.
The 34-year-old believed such opportunities would come his way after he dismantled and then destroyed the much-hyped Josh Kelly in February of 2021, but his former promoter, Eddie Hearn, didn’t deliver the fights he wanted, so his team took the decision to join forces with Warren. Wins over Liam Taylor and Oskari Metz kept him ticking over, yet boxing fans felt that the fighter was in danger of withering on the vine defending his EBU welterweight title. Now, though, he has secured a long-desired big fight, against WBO welterweight titlist Terence Crawford at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on December 10, and he spoke exclusively to Boxing News about the huge challenge ahead.
