Mid Devon District Council has enlisted help from Teignbridge local authority to ensure more self-build plots become available. Mid Devon will receive expert advice and support from Charles Acland, self-build officer at Teignbridge. The initiative is being funded through the government’s new burdens payment for self and custom build, and will be facilitated by the Right to Build Task Force.
Mario Wolf, director of the RTB Task Force, says: “In custom and self-build, shared learning is vital to efficiency and success.”

One of the biggest issues cited in the survey is the number of renovations and extensions carried out without the appropriate planning permission or Building Regulations approval.
