GRENADA AT 50

THE HOTTEST CARIBBEAN NEWS, REVIEWS & INTERVIEWS

On 7 February 2024, Grenada celebrates 50 years of independence. On launching a year-long celebration last October, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said: “This is our journey, this is our people and we are doing this for our future.” Aprime symbol of Grenada, and of hope, is the country’s national bird, the critically endangered, highly elusive and endemic Grenada dove, which is found only in the island’s coastal woodland. Thought to be nearly extinct in the 1960s, its numbers are now steadily increasing.
