The one cake that most cake decorators make more than any other is a
birthday cake. This is also the most common way many of us get into cake decoration/sugarcraft to start with; you start with a cute cake for your baby’s first birthday, and before you know it others are asking if you can make them a cake… Sound familiar?
One of the very first birthday cakes I made was a 3D cat for my youngest son with a chocolate flake (crumbled to look like fur – well, sort of) covering it. Things have certainly improved since that early effort, but I am still blessed with having to come up with dragon themed cakes for my eldest who is 29 this month. I guess boys never grow up!
I remember searching all over for inspiration in those early days, but for you help is now at hand each month in and I am sure that this edition’s selection of cakes will give you plenty of scope.
