As mentioned last month, I’ve swapped my Mercedes 280E for a Jaguar XJ6. I am extremely pleased with it, but the XJ will have to go to fund the Elite, a project that may lead to divorce if I’m not careful. The Merc came with a spare front wing that would not fit in the car or the recovery truck, so I delivered it to new owner and long-time pal Simon Martin. I was intrigued to find that he lives on the road in Shepperton where Tom Jones bought his first house in 1964, a rather stylish Modernist home where the Welsh crooner was pictured sitting on the bonnet of his Carmen Red S-type Jag, the other prize Tom treated himself to after Green Green Grass Of Home put him in the big time.
