DUOPHONIC/DRAG CITY
Though the former Stereolab singer may still be tackling big issues like neo-fascism, emancipation and Gnosticism on her fifth solo album, you’d be hard pressed to tell, and not just if you can’t understand the French she employs to predictably seductive effect on a song such as Panser L’Inacceptable. That breezy tune looks back to childhood’s wounds, but Sadier’s voice is an angelic balm and, though Who + What explores similarly weighty ideas of a more global healing, it could also be old post-rock friends Tortoise backing some appealingly insubstantial chanson with the carefree delight of The 5th Dimension.
