It still seems weird that as Kevin Godley turns 75 this is his first ever solo album. After many years of mind-bending music with 10cc and Godley & Creme, and vibrant video directing, we knew he was a gifted experimentalist with a gorgeous voice and a dark sense of humour. Those qualities feature in abundance on Muscle Memory, yet at no point is it what you’d expect. Often sinister, provocative and perverse, it addresses 2020’s febrile neuroses as fearlessly as any record this discommoding year, and commands repeated listening.
